Environmental
Emanuel Whittaker fully understands its responsibility to reduce its impact on the environment both locally, regionally and globally and for this reason we have instigated a robust environmental management system which is successfully independently assessed against the ISO14001 Standard.
All sites and divisions identify and address environmental and sustainability aspects and impacts across all of our activities.
Raising Awareness
We have an awareness raising agenda, with all of our employees and site based supply chain operatives receiving Environmental ‘Tool Box Talks’ on a monthly basis. These talks are aimed at issues such as waste reduction, energy conservation, ISO14001 awareness, carbon management, water and fuel conservation, pollution prevention, dust and noise nuisance, etc., and will be added to as time goes by.
Green Initiatives
Green Deal is the Governments flagship initiative to address performance of buildings in the UK. It will deliver a potentially huge volume of eco refit work commencing in 2012.
Green Deal is an excellent fit for Emanuel Whittaker, enabling us to bring our vast experience of quality and traditional skills into a modern green building environment alongside our valued clients and supply chains.
We have started preparation for working within the Green Deal Programme with: awareness training for all staff; tool box talks for sites and a review of our quality and environmental system to meet the necessary PAS 2030 accreditation early in the New Year.
We will be working with Salix Homes to trial PAS 2030 requirements over the next few months on a live project. Regular updates from this trial will be shared on the project blog and this site.
Carbon Notes
Moving beyond 14001 we are measuring our carbon footprint on a trial project using ConstructCO2 to understand our project carbon emissions. We are now looking at action plans to reduce our carbons and roll out across all of our sites.
