Community Spirit
Aug 28, 2024In a heart-warming display of community spirit, Emanuel Whittaker, has gone beyond their usual duties, by creating a child’s custom desk for a resident in need. The idea came about during a routine kitchen replacement project in one of the properties in Beswick.
The social housing team, led by Site Supervisor, Mike Green, noticed the family’s predicament during their visits.
“We were installing new kitchens with top-notch materials, and it struck us that we could do something extra with the leftover materials,” said Mike. “Joe was doing his work at the kitchen table, which wasn’t ideal. We decided to surprise the family with a desk made from the same materials we used for the kitchen.”
The team took it upon themselves to design and build a matching desk for Joe, using the high-quality wood and fittings left over from the kitchen installation. They carefully designed the desk to complement the new kitchen, ensuring it was both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
When the team unveiled the desk, the resident was moved to tears. “I can’t believe they did this for us,” she said. “Joe now has a proper place to do his number work. This desk means so much to us and shows how caring and thoughtful our community is.”
“Its small acts of kindness like this that truly make a difference,” Mike reflected. “We’re not just here to build and maintain homes; we’re here to build a supportive and caring relationship.”
As a reminder that even in challenging times, there are always opportunities to lend a helping hand and brighten someone’s day.
